On 8/11 Stephen and I flew from Phoenix to Maryland to see my family for 2 weeks and then we returned back to Reno, NV. We had secured our old jobs prior to arriving back in the US. It started to get hot in Mexico and I mentioned in my last blog we wanted to fill up the piggy banks so we could try for another South Pacific crossing. Luckily, Mexico and the isolation on the boat kept our piggy banks very happy but it never hurts to pad the pockets if possible.
We moved back in with our fabulous and kind friends Krysi and Ryan. We also get Sawyer their son as a roommate and Tenzing the German Shepherd. We love them all dearly and it was a great reunion. Krysi and Ryan very thoughtfully put together “pandemic” bags for us that included masks, hand, and nasal sanitizer. We so appreciated it and helped us get prepared more easily.
I have returned back as a Nurse Practitioner Hospitalist at my old hospital, Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. I have been there since 2009 so it is a very familiar setting. I am returning on a night shift and they have given me a new position in the ICU. It is an opportunity to utilize my critical care certification more-so than my previous role caring for floor and step down patients and will require improving my skills on ventilator management and doing more procedures. I really don’t mind nights. I like the slow getting up to drink coffee, have some time for some exercise, and get ready for work. It affords me a bit of day before going work. Stephen will be working days. He just cannot do nights and needs to keep his biorhythms set. He will work day shift in the ICU. He also may consider heading back to California for some critical care transport nursing. They have a generous pay and picking up a few shifts there would a great financial help.
In our off time, we have really enjoyed heading back out to Eastern Nevada. We have only been back to NV for less than a month and have enjoyed 2 great camping weeks. I work a week on/week off schedule and Stephen is just starting back this upcoming week so we took advantage of our off days and went to the Jefferson Mountain Range south of Austin, NV, and then off to the Ruby Mountains, south of Elko, NV. Both are absolutely gorgeous areas and reminds every time that despite the beauty of the Eastern Sierras which border CA/NV that Eastern NV has some amazing sights and fewer people!! SHOOSH!!! Don’t tell! Ha! Nah, people know and the Ruby's were quite busy. People were running from the CA smoke and heading East just like us.
We have been able to stay healthy and keep our minds healthy by getting outside!
Here are some pics…
