Leaving Puerto Penasco

Stephen and I are finally able to make an exit from PP!! After arriving on 2/28 and splashing on 3/13 from the yard, we got a weather window :) and our boat chores were done ( THEY ARE NEVER DONE BTW!).

We had 2 weeks in the yard and 2 weeks in Safe Marina which is adjacent to the yard! Both weeks filled with boat projects to include sanding the bottom, painting the bottom with bottom paint, waxing the hull, several boat washes due to IMMENSE AMOUNT of DUST and DIRT here, varnishing our companionway steps with awesome new product and few other things!

The best thing about being here is the cruiser community!!! In our opinion, despite the large quantities of Arizonians coming to visit for holiday, it is not a destination we perhaps would pick for holiday. There are dunes and lots of ATVs enjoying them and long beaches to run and frolic on. What we enjoyed most of course it the good cheap eats of street tacos and pollo!!! (chicken).

The cruiser community is always so welcoming and folks working hard on their boats. Lots of potlucks and BBQs - all outside and COVID compliant, and sharing the Boats successes and Boat challenges!  No one ill here since we arrived and Mexicans of >65 yo just starting to get their vaccinations. Even Arizona opened up for >16 yo for the RONA!

We do have a timeline to be in La Paz for 4/15 to meet up with our great friends, Matt and Amahra from Soldotna, AK who will join us for our passage to Hawaii! We will have to do some SERIOUS boat configuration to make the aft cabin (WHICH IS FULL OF STUFF) available to them! We have done it before and we can do it again!! This does make us think of getting a bigger boat at times 45-50 ft ( ear muffit Soulstice ) but we have outfitted our beautiful boat so well and she treats us great.

Anyway, follow along as we will try to make a beeline to the outside of La Paz, hoping for some Mexican cruising time ( aka spearfishing, SUP, hiking the peaks) before we have to meet up with our crew and do some more serious passage making to HI!

Hope everyone is well and healthy! Love to you all from SV Soulstice

FROM THIS LIFE:

TO THIS LIFE:

Well.... here we are in Puerto Penasco! We arrived Sunday evening 2/28 after a shuttle with Nena's from the Phoenix airport. We had (4) 50lb bags that I was anticipating how to get them up the ladder and through our tiny shrink wrap doorway into the boat. It did happen and somehow I managed to get them emptied out the next day. The boat can swallow up stuff fairly well but on the same token, she is packed with stuff and we have only managed to have a clearing to sleep on the bed. We are dry camping right now so it is a bit of a challenge, especially climbing a 2 story ladder up and down to run to the bathroom ( there are only 2 for the entire boatyard!). Many folks stay in their campers next to the boat and some folks have apartments they retreat to after getting their boat projects done. It is a mix of single-handers, to couples and families with several kids. Some folks are doing big refits and others hoping to do a few projects and splash ( get the boat back into the water) like us.

Well, I don't have much to report right now. I will keep everyone posted on our journey south through the Sea of Cortez. We do have a bit of a timeline, with plans to meet up with Matt and Amahra from Alaska, in La Paz in the middle of April. They will join us for our 3-week passage to Hawaii.
